Manufacture Facilities

Wall Colmonoy produces a range of nickel – cobalt – and iron -base powders for use in brazing alloys, pastes, gels and for thermal spraying processes such as HVOF and PTA.

Alloys are made to a range of specifications under the brands

Manufacturing Facilities

Wall Colmonoy has a number of induction melting furnaces designed for efficient production.  Typically the alloy constituents are weighed into charges and melted at an appropriate temperature prior to atomizing.

The molten metal is then poured into the atomizer which may use either high pressure water or inert gas to provide the atomizing action.

The interaction of the high pressure water or gas with the molten metal stream produces fine metal droplets which solidify rapidly.  Careful control of the process and bespoke designs of the water/ gas inlet nozzles ensure that the powder yield from each charge is maximized.

Once cool, the spheroidised droplets are then taken and put through classifiers to produce a powder with the appropriate range of particle size required by the subsequent application. Alloy powders may also be mixed with other materials such as tungsten carbide to provide specific performance characteristics in the parts to which the powders are applied.
