Sand Casting
A wide range of cobalt base, nickel base and stainless steel alloys can be poured in our modern Sand Foundry. Castings are usually supplied in the machined condition in accordance with the customer’s drawings.
The sand casting process is used typically for larger components and/or small batch quantities. Sand casting is capable of making fairly complex shapes using relatively inexpensive wood or resin patterns. Sand, containing a binder, is packed around the pattern; the sand is then tamped down to provide a compacted mould with adequate strength. The pattern is then removed, leaving a negative form in the mould.
Internal form can be produced in the sand casting by inlaying one or more cores in the mould. The two halves of the mould are clamped together ready for casting.
Our sand systems have been optimized to give superior surfaces for the high temperature corrosion resistant alloys that are cast.
Once cast and cooled the components are removed from the mould , cleaned and dressed and delivered to our machine shop for final machining.
